White Rose Triathletes were established and affiliated to British Triathlon in 1990, the club still retains some of the founder members, who have been involved in Triathlon since its arrival in the UK.

Some club members have travelled all over the world to take part in competitions, several have represented their country in the sports of Triathlon and Duathlon, which has created a very sound and experienced base for the club and its growing membership

The club is very well respected within the Triathlon community and are actively represented on the Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Committee.
Key events in the club history

1990 - Formation of White Rose Triathletes
A small group of athletes decide to form a new Triathlon club based in York

  1991 - First open event :- York Biathlon
Swim / Run based event held at Edmund Wilson Swimming Pool. The event catered for both Adults and Children.
1994 - 1st annual early season training camp
The first training camp was held in Mallorca, since then the club has held training camps each year visiting different locations including Lanzarote & Sardinia.

  1996 - Club athletes represent GB at Nice
Pete Mathieson & Richard Wasling became the first club members to represent GB at the World Long Course Triathlon Championships in Nice, France.
1998 - New open event :- York Duathlon
Changing the format of the open event to a mass start, run - bike - run event, based at Stamford Bridge on the outskirts of York.

Dot Wagstaff 2003 - WRT gains a World Champion
Towards the end of 2003 the World Standard Distance Triathlon Championships took place in New Zealand. Dot Wagstaff pulled off a remarkable win to take the gold medal in her relevant age group.
2004 - WRT moves into its own premises
White Rose Tri very gratefully takes over its own club premises at Wigginton sports playing fields. The extremely kind donation of the clubhouse and its contents were handed over following the sad demise of Wigginton AC.
 
  2004 - Hawaii bound for 2 club members
Both Pete Mathieson & Dot Wagstaff achieved personal ambitions of qualifying for the famous Hawaii Ironman event. Both successfully completed the event, enduring the tremendous heat and humidity found on the Big Island.
2005 - White Rose Duathlon Grand Prix event
The well established White Rose Duathlon gains National Grand Prix recognition in the season long British Triathlon National ranking series. As one of only 8 events it became one of the major Duathlons in the country. Immense hard work & preparation provided the club with incredible positive feedback after the event.

  2005 - WRT Applauds Youth National Champ
Phil Graves one of WRT's Youth members achieved the status of becoming the British Triathlon National Champion for 2005. To add to his list he also gained Silver medal in the European Youth team championships and Yorkshire & Humberside regional series winner in the Youth category.
2005 - Yorkshire & Humberside junior series
Four members of the clubs junior section gained outright success in the season long series. Both Phil & Victoria graves each won their respective categories in the Youth section, Lawrence Whiteley won the Tristar 3 category and Oliver Dixon won the Tristar 2. Will Hannon also placed highly to take 3rd place in the Tristar 1 category. In total 17 White Rose Tri junior members took part in the series.
 
Clubmark and Star Logos 2005 - Clubmark and Starmark success
White Rose Triathletes became the first club in the Yorks & Humberside region to achieve both Clubmark & Star accreditation, in fact they are only one of a handful of clubs in the whole country to achieve these nationally recognised awards.
2006 - WRT receives an Awards for All lottery grant
White Rose Triathletes were successfully awarded a Lottery funded Awards for All grant to help with the renovation of the clubhouse.

  2006 - Tragic loss of White Rose Triathlete, Tracy Kaye
Tracy Kaye, one of White Rose Triathletes much liked and very talented club members, lost her life following a tragic road accident. Tracy will be sadly missed by all members of the club.
2006 -Yorkshire & Humberside Junior series
White Rose Triathletes junior members, once again earned success in the Yorkshire & Humberside regional series. Joshua Schofield placed first in the Tristart, Ben Barber 2nd in Tristar 2, Kirsty Smith 3rd in Tristar 3, Oliver Dixon 1st in Tristar 3 and Victoria Graves 3rd in the Youth category.
 
  2007 - WRT club house renovations complete
White Rose Triathletes have now completed the renovations on the clubhouse, which now has disabled toilet facilities, shower & changing rooms, new flooring and 10 new spin bikes.
